Anyone Out There ?

There is so much to do in Amateur Radio. These are just some of the activities that the POTA*413 members take part in... If you have any questions, please let us know...

Summits On The Air

SOTA is an addicting hiking activity for amateur radio operators who love the outdoors. Activators carry portable radio gear up to designated summits and "activate" the peak by making at least four contacts from within the activation zone. Chasers hunt the activators and claim credit for the summits after making contact with an activator. For more information, see the official SOTA Website.

Parks On The Air &

Floral and Fauna

These groups are for portable amateur radio operations that promote emergency awareness and communications from National, State Parks and even Forest and Wildlife Management Areas governed by the National Park Service.

In POTA, an activator needs to make 10 contacts within a 24 hour period to count as an activation. While F&F need 44 contacts total for credit to be granted for activation.

Field Day

ARRL Field Day is the most popular on-the-air event held annually in the US and Canada. On the fourth weekend of June, more than 35,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate from remote locations. This is a 24 hour continuous exercise to simulate emergency communication welfare and logistical needs during an actual emergency.

28.413 MHz Roundtable

Sponsored by POTA*413. This group activity currently takes place every Wednesday night, at 19:00(L) Eastern Standard Time. Each week POTA*413 Club Members dial in and tune up to 28.413 MHz to say hello, and basically tickle the 10 meter band for about 1/2 hour or so each week. The topics vary, but normally reflect amateur radio in some capacity.

Chasing Stations

Perhaps you don't like the extreme heat in the summer or the dropping degrees of the freezing winter. Whichever your reason, many people enjoy CHASING PARKS and SOTA Stations from the comfort of their home shack.... You still get credit, and is just as much fun!

Ugly Sweater USPOTA*413

Every year around the holiday season, POTA*413 members will gather together and make a portable activation while wearing their best Ugly Sweater in the process. The event usually ends up with a group photo, and a warm coffee somewhere after the event.
